A non-government organisation (NGO), We-Fiji, continues to lead by example in creating COVID-19 awareness by making donations of sanitiser packs to needy families in Valebasoga, outside Labasa.

It has previously donated face masks, clothes, water tanks and other COVID-related resources to communities in the Northern Division.

Its president, Mohammed Khan, said the donations were part of their NGO’s commitment to support the Government in their COVID-containment efforts.

Mr Khan said the donations were targeted to help families and frontliners.

They provided Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) personnel at Vaturekuka, Labasa, with cartons of sanitiser packs last Sunday.

He said the donations focused on reaching out to families living in rural and interior locations, who could not afford to purchase COVID-safe resources.

“There are some families and individuals, who are not able to cater and make a budget allocation for these life-saving resources,” he said.

Mr Khan said COVID-19 suppression protocols were vital in mitigating the community transmission cases that have hiked during the third wave in the division.

Meanwhile, more consignments of sanitiser packs from their sponsors, Madinah Academy, were expected to arrive in the country soon, which would be disbursed to the different areas in the Northern Division.

“We are looking at assisting communities in Bua, Nabouwalu, Lekutu, Nasarawaqa, Dreketi, Seaqaqa and Labasa with these sanitiser donations,” he said.

Other areas they have recently covered with sanitiser donations were Suva, Nasinu, Koro Island, and the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) in Suva.

Families thankful

Valebasoga resident, Mohammed Amzad Ali, thanked the NGO for their support because this was the first donation of COVID-19-safety resources.

Mr Ali said their community, which was like a family, were overwhelmed with the assistance.

He reiterated that families were struggling to make ends meet financially, and allocating money to buy sanitisers was a difficulty.

“We have senior citizens as well, who don’t have these resources, so this assistance goes a long way in supporting and protecting their lives as well,” he said.
