GUWAHATI: The
Assam cabinet on Thursday decided that from now onwards, traffic on any road cannot be disrupted for the chief minister’s carcade and, if necessary, it may be halted but not for more than two minutes, and an ambulance will always get precedence over the CM's carcade.
The cabinet also decided that to minimise public inconvenience, the CM’s carcade will be limited to six cars from the current 21 within Guwahati metropolitan area and to 12 in other areas.
Further, the cabinet decided to discontinue with the practice of felicitations and offering of gifts to the CM, ministers and senior officials during any official function but the “visiting dignitaries will be provided with proper courtesy.”
On January 15, chief minister
Himanta Biswa Sarma had reprimanded
Nagaon deputy commissioner on the national highway for the halting traffic to make way for his convoy.
Sarma, on seeing the long queue of stranded vehicles on the highway, got down from his vehicle and started clearing the traffic.
