In Short

  • Shardul Thakur was not retained by CSK for IPL 2022
  • The India all-rounder is likely to fetch big money at the IPL auction
  • The mega auction will be held on February 12 and 13

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 auction is just a couple of weeks away and there is plenty of buzz around the two-day affair, which is scheduled to be held on February 12 and 13. Quite a few players have been retained while as many as 6 players have been picked in a draft by the two new franchises, Lucknow and Ahmedabad, ahead of the auction.

However, there are several big names who are set to go for big money in the IPL 2022 mega auction as a 10-team IPL returns in the 2022 season, which is expected to get underway in the final week of March.

In a funny banter, India all-rounder Shardul Thakur, star batter KL Rahul and leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal were seen discussing possible auction picks in what seems to be a casual chat at the team hotel during India's tour of South Africa.

Shardul Thakur, who has evolved into one of the key all-format players for India over the last year, asked KL Rahul if he has any budget in mind to pick him at the IPL 2022 auction.

Notably, Rahul was named as the captain of the Lucknow Super Giants franchise, owned by RPSG Group. Rahul was picked in the draft for Rs 17 crore but the skipper told Shardul jokingly that they would not offer him more than his base price.

Chahal interrupted the two and came up with a funny reply that cracked up the other players.

"Bagwan keliye budget nah hota hail," Chahal was heard saying in a viral video that is being shared online.

With his ability to pick up crucial wickets and hit a long ball with the bat, Shardul is likely to be one of the most sought-after all-rounders at the IPL 2022 auction. The Mumbai all-rounder, fondly called as "Lord" by his teammates and fans, was not retained by Chennai Super Kings who won the title in IPL 2021.

It remains to be seen if MS Dhoni's men will go for Shardul at the auction as there are reportedly no Right To Match cards available at the mega auction.
