It's easy to forget the true scale of Ange Postecoglou 's task when he walked through the doors at Celtic Park.

Following the Eddie Howe saga, the Australian was handed a threadbare Celtic squad and the task of challenging Rangers for the title.

A side who finished a whopping 25 points ahead of them.

He had to rebuild the starting XI that was padded out by academy kids during his first game in charge against Midtjylland in the Champions League qualifier.

Since then he has lifted the Premier Sports Cup and is pushing the current champions all the way for the title despite an up and down start in the league.

17 new players have arrived at the club since Postecoglou took charge.

And at Record Sport we've analysed the scale and cost of the overhaul at Parkhead since the new man took the reins.

Liam Shaw

The 20-year-old agreed a pre-contract move to Celtic Park from Sheffield Wednesday ahead of Postecoglou's arrival, but started work at the club under the Australian.

Things haven't quite gone to plan for the prospect having made just one first-team appearance so far in the Europa League dead rubber against Real Betis.

He is out on loan at Motherwell gaining valuable game time for the remainder of the campaign.

Transfer fee: £300k (Development fee)

Osaze Urhoghide

Urhoghide joined Shaw in leaving Sheffield Wednesday for just a cross-border development fee of around £200k after becoming Postecoglou's first signing.

He also made his debut against Real Betis but has found game time hard to come by.

The centre-back is attracting a number of loan offers as we approach the end of the January window.

Transfer Fee: £200k (Development fee)

Liel Abada

The 20-year-old winger doesn't quite grab as much of the limelight compared to other names in the front three but he's been a roaring success since arriving from Maccabi Petah Tikva in the summer and his output is frightening when you remember his age.

The Israel international made an instant impact on his debut, scoring against Midtjylland in the Champions League qualifier.

Since then he has filled the void left by injury-plagued James Forrest on the right wing, and has even been deployed a striker, with 11 goals in 38 appearances.

Transfer Fee: £3.5m

Carl Starfelt

The centre-back saw Celtic splash the cash with a £4m switch from Rubin Kazan in the summer.

The Swede has had a mixed start to life at Celtic Park, having picked up some criticism for his displays early in his career in Glasgow's east end.

But he excels in games where his side are under the cosh and has made countless key tackles and blocks in big moments.

He's one of the first names on the team sheet for the Australian at the heart of his defence with the perceived wisdom among fans that he's improving steadily.

Transfer fee: £4m

Kyogo Furuhashi

The biggest fee paid out during the Postecoglou era brought a new hero for the Celtic fans.

Vissel Kobe received around £4.6million for the services of the Japan international but it already looks to be a bargain.

The striker has netted 16 goals so far this season and has been the talisman and poster boy for the revolution under Postecoglou.

Currently sidelined with injury, fans are desperate to see the star striker return.

Transfer fee: £4.6m

James McCarthy

There have also been experienced performers added to the squad.

James McCarthy arrived from Crystal Palace on a free this summer having been hampered by injuries during his time in the English Premier League.

The Ireland cap has yet to shine for Celtic, but will have plenty of time to find his feet in the Scottish Premiership having penned a four-year deal. At the moment, however, he doesn't seem like a great fit.

Joe Hart

Celtic's Joe Hart has been an instant success since arriving in the Scottish Premiership

The goalkeeping position has been a major issue at Celtic Park in recent seasons with Vasilis Barkas, Conor Hazard and Scott Bain unable to make the position their own.

Since arriving from Tottenham, former England number one Hart is the undisputed first choice for Postecoglou this season.

The former Manchester City stopper has instantly earned the respect of fans and the players around him with his displays so far this season.

Transfer fee: £1m

Josip Juranovic

The 26-year-old joined for a reported £2.5m fee from Legia Warsaw and the Croatia international has shown to be a key member of Postecoglou's squad.

Having been signed as a right-back, he was initially deployed on the left-side of the back four proving his versatility.

Transfer fee: £2.5m

Liam Scales

The Ireland call-up made the move to Celtic for a cut-price £500k fee from Shamrock Rovers to provide competition for first-choice left-back Greg Taylor.

The 23-year-old has been used sparingly since his arrival from the Irish set-up but is gaining steam and his superior crossing ability have left fans impressed.

Transfer fee: £500k

Jota

The winger has become a fan favourite with his lightning quick pace and darting runs catching the eye at Celtic Park.

Celtic have an option to buy with parent club Benfica and supporters have long been calling for Parkhead chiefs to pull the trigger and secure the 22-year-old long term.

Transfer fee: Loan, option to buy

Cameron Carter-Vickers

The USA cap has formed a formidable partnership in the heart of the Celtic defence alongside Carl Starfelt following his loan switch from Tottenham.

The centre-back has rarely been considered for the Spurs first-team and the Premiership title hopefuls have an option to buy on Carter-Vickers.

He stands at 6ft tall but no striker seems capable of getting much out of him.

Transfer fee: Loan, option to buy

Giorgos Giakoumakis

Giorgos Giakoumakis wheels away

It's been a stop-start season for the Greek striker since his arrival from VVV-Venlo in the summer - but has a corner now been turned?

He has been hampered by injury issues and when fit he has struggled to receive a run in the first-team given the form of Furuhashi.

Having netted two in his last two Giakoumakis might be about to prove his worth.

Transfer fee: £2.5m

Daizen Maeda

Ange Postecoglou once again looked to the J-League with the addition of Daizen Maeda.

The striker got off to a great start, scoring against Hibs in his first appearance for the club before being whisked away on Japan duty.

Currently on loan from Yokohama F. Marinos, the club will reportedly pay out £1.5million when the deal becomes permanent.

Transfer fee: Loan, option to buy

Reo Hatate

Hatate has already turned heads with a seriously impressive displays against Hibs and Hearts in the Scottish Premiership.

The £1.4million paid out to Kawasaki Frontale could prove to be a bargain if he keeps this level of performance up and at 24 he's got plenty of peak years ahead.

Transfer fee: £1.4 million

Yosuke Ideguchi

Gamba Osaka received less than £1million for the services of Japan international Ideguchi.

The midfielder looks set for a spell on the sidelines following the crunching tackle received in the Scottish Cup clash with Alloa, but will hope to kick-start his Celtic career soon.

Transfer fee: £850k

Johnny Kenny

The 18-year-old was wanted by Hibs but Celtic won the race for his signature following key talks with Ange Postecoglou.

He has yet to make an appearance for the first-team or Colts but looks to be one for the future after joining from Sligo Rovers.

Transfer fee: £125k

Matt O'Riley

O'Riley's performances for MK Dons attracted interest from across Europe but Celtic got the deal over the line this month.

He was thrown straight in for his debut against Hearts and impressed in midfield, filling the gap left by injured captain Callum McGregor and the absent Tom Rogic.

Transfer fee: £1.5 million

What has been spent

Since the arrival of Postecoglou, Celtic have spent £22.975million in the transfer market but the incomings have been offset by the money-spinning exits of Odsonne Edouard, Kris Ajer and Jeremie Frimpong.

The club have used the loan market well, with an option to buy on several players who have proved to be key at Parkhead so far this season.

Kyogo and Starfelt have cost the most in fees so far, and have been mainstays of Postecoglou era.

There has also been some gambles including McCarthy, but hope remains the veteran can still find his feet.

The proof will come at the end of the season if the massive rebuild in the first-team has been worthwhile when the Australian looks at the Celtic Park trophy cabinet.
