Bhubaneswar: The vigilance directorate on Monday unearthed disproportionate assets (DA) worth Rs 2.26 crore, including Rs 1.12 crore bank balance, of a junior junior engineer (JE) in Angul district.
The anti-corruption sleuths conducted simultaneous raids on properties of the JE, Biranchi Narayan Sahoo, in Angul district on Monday for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Sahoo, posted in the office of the block development officer (BDO) at Talcher, has been detained for questioning. Sahoo joined as a contractual JE in September 2010.
He used to get a monthly consolidated salary of Rs 12,500 till December 2015. His job was subsequently regularised.
“His income from salary during his service period so far comes around Rs 39 lakh. But we were shocked to find a bank balance of Rs 1.12 crore, including fixed deposits, in the names of Sahoo, his wife and family members. The total value of his movable and immovable wealth is around Rs 2.26 crore,” a vigilance official said.
