Illegal arms recovered in Azamgarh, Ballia & Jaunpur

Huge recoveries of illegal arms were made by the police of Azamgarh, Ballia and Jaunpur district by unearthing manufacturing units as well as busting the gangs of smugglers and arms dealers.

Varanasi: Huge recoveries of illegal arms were made by the police of Azamgarh, Ballia and Jaunpur district by unearthing manufacturing units as well as busting the gangs of smugglers and arms dealers.
In view of the assembly election, massive drives are being carried out in almost all the districts of this region. During one of the same drives in Azamgarh, an illegal arms factory was unearthed in the forest on the banks of river Hathiya under the limits of Sidhari police station.

The SP Azamgarh Anurag Arya said that Sidhari police were busy in a checking drive near Hydel colony when they were tipped-off about the arms unit following which a raid was conducted on the banks of river Hathiya. The two illegal arms manufacturers Jai Prakash Singh and Rajesh Ram were arrested, he said. As many as 12 fully manufactured country made revolvers, partially made revolvers, seven live cartridges, furnish, blower, tools for arms manufacturing, parts and many other articles were recovered from the unit, he said.
During initial interrogation of the police, the duo confessed that they were preparing arms to meet the increasing demands of firearms during the assembly poll season. They said that they had chosen forest on river bank to run their manufacturing unit as the area was rarely visited rarely anyone passed through this arby anyone while they worked in night. They also divulged the names of persons, who had procured illegal arms from them following which the police have intensified efforts to nab them. Arya said that both the arrested arms manufacturers had long criminal history sheets with police.
Meanwhile, the joint team of ATS Varanasi filed unit and Dubahar police station arretsed five arms smugglers along with five country-made pistols, 10 magazines and a SUV in Ballia district. SP Ballia Rajkaran Nayyar said that on a tip-off regarding the movement of arms smuggler in Bihar bordering area, the ATS along with the police of Dubahar cordoned Janeshwar Mishra bridge and intercepted a SUV during a massive checking drive.

On checking the SUV, five pistols and 10 magazines were recovered. Following this development the police arrested all five persons in a SUV, said Nayyar adding, they were identified as Anshu Kumar, Deepak Tiwari, Abhishek Kumar Rai, Amit Singh and Yogesh Rai. All these arms smugglers have long criminal history sheet with police. They were bringing illegal arms from Bihar to supply in poll bound districts of the state, said the police.
In Jaunpur, Sikrara police arrested one Ram Surat on Ramsahaipatti village and four arms suppliers including Ashutosh Harijan, Abhishek Singh, Shiraj Singh and Ravi Gautam from Tahirpur area when they were busy in finalising an arms deal. SP Jaunpur Ajay Sahani said that one factory made pistol, four country-made revolvers and several live cartridges were recovered from their possession.
During interrogation, Ram Surat divulged that he was a married man but had an affair with another married woman. Ram Surat had planned to kill his wife and his lover’s husband as they both were a hurdle in their relationship. To execute his plan he contacted his landlord Abhishek, who runs a gang of arms smuggling. Ram Surat, Abhishek and his gang members had gathered to finalise arms deal in the same connection when they were caught by the police.
