NEW DELHI: Three people were arrested on Sunday for allegedly molesting and robbing a woman in Vivek Vihar.
On January 3, the PCR received a call regarding a robbery at Surya Nagar bus stand near Vivek Vihar. The complainant told police that at around 6.16pm, three unknown people caught her from behind and dragged her to the bushes.
“They physically assaulted her and robbed her phone, money and earrings,” the officer said.
During the investigation, police zeroed down on three people and nabbed them from Maharajpur in Uttar Pradesh.
The accused were identified as Suresh (28), Jeetu (24) and Ankit (22). During the probe, police found that when the accused spotted a vulnerable target, they followed the person till they reached an isolated spot. Then, finding an opportunity, they pounced on the victim and choked them by the neck or mouth and then stole their belongings. “One of them choked the victim while the other two robbed them,” an officer said.
DCP (Shahdara) R Sathiyasundaram said Ankit was previously involved in two cases of robbery. “Suresh, a native of Nepal, and Jeetu were first-time offenders,” he said.
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
