BAGALKOT: A student was injured in protests supporting and condemning the wearing of hijab at Rabakavi-Banahatti towns in
Bagalkot district of
Karnataka on Tuesday.
Student groups demanding permission to wear hijab and demanding a ban on hijab came face-to-face at
Government PU College. Some miscreants hurled stones at the college, which injured a student. Police resorted to lathi-charge to control the situation.
Superintendent of police
Lokesh Jagalasara rushed to the town and ensured that law and order prevailed.
After reviewing the situation, he appealed to the students through the media to focus on their education and future. "Whatever their demand, they can protest peacefully. If a criminal case is registered against them, their future will be spoiled," he warned.
He also said that there is no need of imposing a prohibition order in the town. "If necessary, we will discuss with Bagalkot deputy commissioner and we will impose it seeing the situation," he added.
