MADHEPURA: Unidentified armed criminals allegedly shot and killed a truck driver in the early hours of Wednesday near Mirganj Chowk under the Murliganj police station (PS) area in Madhepura district. Ainul Haque (45), a resident of Raiganj in West Bengal, was identified as the driver.
The incident occurred when the driver was transporting paddy belonging to a Madhepura-based firm to Raiganj.
Motorcycle-born criminals intercepted the truck and attempted to rob the driver of cash at gunpoint. When he resisted their bid and fled the scene, they shot at him.
The truck’s cleaner informed the firm’s owner, who then told the Madhepura and Murliganj police. A team rushed to the scene and took the injured driver to Madhepura for better treatment, but the victim succumbed to his injuries on the way.
Shrawan Kumar, proprietor of the firm, recounted a similar incident that occurred on and around the same spot previously, in which criminals looted his wheat worth Rs 6 lakh that was loaded in a truck.
According to sources, a case has been registered in this connection at the Madhepura PS against unknown people, and police are conducting an investigation.
