Uttar Pradesh: 10 women drown in well during wedding ritual in Kushinagar district

As many as nine people died after they accidentally fell into a well during a 'haldi' ceremony in Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday.

LUCKNOW: At least 10 women were killed after drowning in a well late on Wednesday evening during a ‘haldi’ ceremony in Kushinagar.
The incident took place when they were standing by the railing around the well and the iron mesh gave way.

Police have not ruled out the possibility of more bodies being fished out from the well.
The rescue operations were underway till past midnight with senior officers monitoring the situation on the ground.
The incident took place at Nebua Naurangiya Police Station.
CM Yogi Adityanath expressed his anguish over the tragedy and directed the district officials to visit the scene of the incident and personally supervise the rescue operations.
