MYSURU/CHAMARAJANAGAR: Two persons working at a white stone quarry site at Gundlupet in
Chamarajanagar district, some 200 km far from Bengaluru are said to be missing after landslides happened at three different locations on Friday.
Three other workers who were injured in the incidents were rescued and hospitalized.
One among them was saved by the personnel of the Department of Fire and Emergency.
He was partially under the rubble. So far no casualty has been reported, police said.
The incident happened around 12.15pm at
Madalli on the outskirts of Gundlupet. Police have given the names of rescued workers as Francis, Noor Ahamed, and Ashraf while the two others missing as Neeraj and Babloo.
Southern Range IGP Praveen Madhukar Pawar told TOI that two workers working at the site are unaccounted for after the landslides. There were three landslides reported. As of now, three are rescued from the quarry site. They have been shifted to a hospital. Doctors have confirmed the condition of all three rescued workers is stable and out of danger, the IPS officer said.
Soon after the incident authorities including police, fire, and emergency personnel from the region rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations. We have requisitioned services of the
NDRF team to carry out a search operation, the IGP said adding they are likely to reach the spot late in the night.
Police officers said the tragedy occurred after parts of a stone hillock came crashing down while people were at work around 12.30 pm.
Chamarajanagar Superintendent of Police TP Shivakumar said there was no death reported at the quarry site. Initially, we were informed that five people have been missing after the landslides. Of them, three are traced and the whereabouts of the two are still not known. Search for them has continued, the SP stated.
Chamarajanagar Deputy Commissioner Charulatha Somal visited the spot.
