PATNA: In what can be termed as an indirect move to checkmate the BJP’s rising stalwart and Bihar Vidhan Sabha speaker Vijay Kumar Sinha in his home constituency, JD(U) on Friday organized a grand ‘Milan Samaroh’ at Mahavir Ji Dharmashala in Barahiya town in which hundreds of the saffron party workers joined the ally JD(U).
Barahiya, mainly dominated by the members of Bhumihar caste, falls under Sinha’s home constituency Lakhisarai.
Sinha won the Lakhisarai seat for the fourth time in November 2020 assembly polls.
Prominent among those who joined the JD(U) were BJP’s former Lakhisarai district president Kanhaiya Kumar, BJP’s former Barahiya town president Gopal Kumar and their supporters.
Speaking on the occasion, the BJP leaders said they joined the JD(U) after being influenced by the development works of CM Nitish Kumar and progressive thoughts of Lalan Singh.
JD(U) national president and Munger MP Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan, who was present as the chief guest of the Milan Samaroh, welcomed the BJP leaders and workers in his party by offering them shawl and garlands. Other prominent JD(U) leaders who were on the dais were former minister and the party’s spokesperson Neeraj Kumar and former MLC Sanjay Prasad.
Lalan Singh, Neeraj and Sanjay belong to the Bhumihar community.
Insiders in the NDA said, the ‘Milan Samaroh’ at Barahiya was in fact a show of strength by the supporters of Lalan Singh on the home turf of the speaker Vijay Sinha who was recently in the centre of discussion in the state politics after he sought action against to police officers of Lakhisarai district.
Prior to reaching the venue of the Milan Samaroh, Lalan Singh was escorted by a long procession comprising hundreds of four-wheelers and two-wheelers. The JD(U)’s procession was purposefully started from Badpur village under Mokama police station of Patna district. Badpur, which is just four to five kilometers in the west of Barahiya town, is the native village of speaker Sinha.
