Four loot Morbi businessman of 15L
Rajkot: In a dramatic loot, which was detected within hours, four people stealthily took away a bag containing Rs 15 lakh cash from the car of a trader in Morbi town on Tuesday.
However, two of the accused were nabbed in Rajkot city while two others managed to escape.
The victim, Rakesh Sanghani, a trader who also owns a laminates unit in Morbi, had left his house with a bag of cash in the morning.
He went to the bank to get a cheque book. As soon as he sat in the car, a young boy approached Sanghani and told him that his cash had fallen from the car on the road. Sanghani opened the door and bent outside to check. In the meantime, as the car's central locking system had opened, two others opened the other door and walked away with the bag kept on the seat. At first Sanghani did not come to know that his bag was stolen, but alerted police as soon he realized that it was missing.
Morbi police reached there and scanned CCTV footage of the area. They saw four people walking on the road with the bag in their hand and then boarding a rickshaw. On further investigation, cops got to know that they had reached the bus depot and left towards Rajkot in a car.
Police barricaded all the roads in the district and alerted Rajkot police too.
A team of Rajkot police was keeping a watch at Hospital Chowk and immediately intercepted the car described by Morbi police. All four of them tried to escape, but cops nabbed two of them - Subramanium Naidu and a 18-year-old Ganesh Subramanium Naidu. Two others — Shiva Swamy and Jay — managed to flee from the spot.
Inspector M A Jankat of Pradyumannagar police station said they recovered Rs 12.5 lakh from the duo while the remaining cash is with the two who fled.
The four emptied the cash into their pockets and other small bags while disposing of the looted bag, he added.
