Bhandara CBSE school’s NOC on the line over fee complaint

Bhandara CBSE school’s NOC on the line over fee complaint
Nagpur: On the floor of the state assembly on Monday, Bhandara MLA Narendra Bhondekar alleged that a CBSE school in his constituency was being ‘protected’ from action in a fee issue-related inquiry.
School education minister Varsha Gaikwad, in turn, denied the allegations and said the inquiry report is ready and final decision on whether or not to cancel the school’s NOC shall be taken soon.
Addressing the house, Bhondekar gave a background of the case which came up in early 2021.
Bhondekar said the school did not allow students, who were unable to pay fees, to appear for exams. “I am talking about students of poor parents,” said Bhondekar.
He added that last year in March, the deputy director of education recommended cancellation of the CBSE school’s NOC, which is granted by the state government. Then a few months later, Bhondekar said, the education department approved application for relocation of the school to a different campus.
“How is it possible that if education department is recommending cancellation of NOC, then the same school gets permission to relocate also? I believe the education department is trying to protect the school because of some political pressure,” said Bhondekar.
Gaikwad denied the allegations and said her officials have already made progress in the inquiry. “We have received the inquiry report and a decision on NOC shall be taken soon. Issue is that there are 2,000 students enrolled and if we cancel the NOC, provision has to be made to shift the students to some other place. We just can’t leave them. They are our kids,” said Gaikwad.

About relocation, Gaikwad said, “There are major traffic issues on the road near the school and unfortunately, a student died in an accident. Anyway, we have put relocation application on hold so that’s not an issue any more.”
Cheating complaints from HSC home centres
A few days ago, TOI had reported about how rumours of cheating during state board exam are increasing, considering that this time home centres have been allotted. On Monday, MLC Pravin Datke raised the issue in the state council and asked what the government was doing about it. School education minister Varsha Gaikwad replied that the home centres were allotted only for this year because of the pandemic. “Next year, this home centre issue won’t be there. As far the complaints are concerned, the state education board will take the necessary steps,” said Gaikwad. Already, Mumbai police are investigating the alleged leak of HSC chemistry paper that was held last week. Reports of Monday’s math paper too are puring in from Ahmednagar, though the department has not confirmed it.
