Haveri: The Ballari Metropolitan Corporation (BMC) beautifying the roadside using scrap materials. Authorities have installed pots in scrap tyres after painting them at Talur Road and Bapuji Nagar Circle, attracting people.
Ballari is infamous for dust and high temperature, but the perception is gradually changing after BMC began installing pots and built gardens at key spots across the city.
Authorities have reduced the cost by using scrap materials. “Earlier, there were several places where garbage was being dumped in the city. People have complained to BMC regarding these blackspots. We have evacuated more than 200 such blackspots and gradually these spots are being beautified,” said BMC commissioner Preethi Gehlot. She said more spots in the city will be beautified in the future using scrap materials. “Our officers and staff are making efforts to make the city more attractive,” Preeti claimed.
P Srinivas, an environmental engineer at BMC said, “We are not spending huge amounts for the beautification in key spots. We are using scrap materials like waste tyres, garbage bags and others things. We have painted them and planted show samplings in tires and plastic garbage bags. We have mounted these tires on compound walls along Talur Road and at Bapuji Circle. People should protect the saplings from cattle and water them if possible.”
“We are using manpower from the BMC for the beautification. Now several blackspots are free from garbage. We will take up similar works at several other places in the city with the support by the citizen” informed Amaresh,” a BMC health inspector said.
Manjunath S, principal, VV Sangha’s Independent PU College, Ballari said Talur Road and Bapuji Circle were in a bad shape. “Now they are attractive. BMC’s move to beautify these places using scrap materials is a good move. The authorities must extend this work to the other areas in the city,” he urged.
