In a sensational incident, BJP leader and leading lawyer Gaurav Jaiswal was shot dead in front of a liquor shop in Chiruha area of Maharajganj late on Monday night. The deceased was the nephew of Municipality Board Chairman Krishna Gopal Jaiswal.

As per reports, Gaurav was called at the liquor shop by someone over a phone call. As he reached there, the assailant shot Gaurav in the head and fled from the spot.  The victim was rushed to a hospital where doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival. The killing led to tension in the area and within no time, hundreds of supporters and party leaders converged on the spot and staged a protest demanding the arrest of the assailant. Later on the assurance of senior officers, the protesters allowed the body to be taken for autopsy.

SP of Maharajganj Pradeep Gupta said that the CCTV footage installed near the shop was being scrutinised and the accused will be identified and arrested soon.

Meanwhile, in a sensational double murder in Firozabad, a woman and her daughter were brutally stabbed over a petty dispute while another kin was seriously injured while trying to rescue them in Mohalla Padav in Shikohabad police station area.

As per reports, Sabeer of Mohalla Padav had a dispute over a gate with his neighbour Salim. This had resulted in skirmishes earlier and Salim had threatened Sabeer and his family to remove the gate or be ready to face the consequences. On Monday night, when Sabeer was not present at home, Salim and two of his cronies, one identified as Sanu, barged inside Sabeer's house armed with knives. They first caught Sabeer's wife Sanjeeda Begum and stabbed her with knives. When Sabeer's daughter Shimmi rushed to her rescue, the accused brutally stabbed her. Hearing their shrieks of help, Sanjeeda's kin Shakeel came there and nabbed Salim. The miscreants later stabbed him multiple times before escaping from the scene. The local residents rushed the three injured to a nearby hospital where Sanjeeda and Shimmi were declared dead while the condition of Shakeel was stated to be critical.

The police later reached the spot and conducted raids to arrest Salim and his cronies. In fact, Salim was also tried to stab the cops after which they opened fire in which the accused was injured in his leg and arrested. His accomplice, however, managed to escape. A case was registered and efforts were being made to nab the remaining two accused.
