BHUBANESWAR: The vigilance officials on Sunday unearthed Rs 1.77 crore bank deposits and insurance investments in the names of a superintending engineer of the rural works division in
Malkangiri district and his family members.
He has been identified as Ashish
Kumar Dash.
On Friday, the vigilance seized more than Rs 10 lakh ill-gotten cash from Dash while he was trying to deposit it in a bank in Malkangiri.
Subsequent search at his residence led to the discovery of Rs 11 lakh more, a vigilance official said.
“On the third day of the search operation, we stumbled upon huge money deposited in banks in the names of Dash and his family members. At least 18 fixed deposits worth around Rs 78 lakh were opened in a private bank in Malkangiri between March 2021 and January 2022,” a vigilance officer said.
Besides, Dash invested Rs 44 lakh in a life insurance company, Rs 25 lakh in share market, deposited Rs 16 lakh in a bank in Keonjhar and made investment worth Rs 14 lakh in
Kisan Vikas Patra, the official said.
Dash, who is being questioned by the anti-corruption officials, faces imminent arrest.
