    Mamata Banerjee's special clean-up drive: 7 arrested from Malda, crude bombs and arms recovered

    The clean-up was ordered by Mamata Banerjee following death of Trinamool Panchayat deputy head Bhadu Sheikh near Rampurhat’s Bogtui village on March 21 in a crude bomb attack.
    Days after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee ordered a 10-day special clean-up drive to uncover illegal arms and ammunition across the state, seven persons have been arrested from Malda, South and North 24 Parganas districts and a huge amount of crude bombs, arms and ammunition have been recovered from various parts of the state by police.

    Thirty crude bombs were recovered from Birbhum's Dubrajpur today during a raid, police sources said. Four barrels of crude bombs were recovered from an under -construction house, off the Rampurhat-Bishnupur road in Margram on Saturday. In North 24 Parganas' Ashoknagar, one person was arrested with arms while another was arrested in Malda with arms today.

    On Friday, six barrels of crude bombs were recovered from Margram in Birbhum, a few metres away from Bogtui village. BJP and other opposition parties had alleged during 2021 assembly polls that Birbhum is sitting on a bed of bombs and arms.

    Following Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s instruction, police conducted a raid in South 24 Paraganas district’s Jibontala. Five persons were arrested from the area with a huge cache of arms. The raid was conducted by police in Jibontala on Saturday night.

    Arms have also been recovered from East Midnapore’s Keshiari, Malda’s Chanchol and Deoandighi. In Malda’s Bamongola, a miscreant was arrested with arms on Saturday. Milan Mondol, the arrested person, is a resident of Bamongola Block’s Guabari area, was produced in court on Sunday, police said. Two bags full of crude bombs were recovered from Malda’s Chanchol block’s Jalalpur by police.

    The clean-up was ordered by Banerjee following death of Trinamool Panchayat deputy head Bhadu Sheikh near Rampurhat’s Bogtui village on March 21 in a crude bomb attack. Bombing and miscreant activities were also reported in Bogtui village, weher eight persons were charred to death.
