Number of districts reporting fresh cases rises to 15

The number of districts that reported new cases of COVID-19 rose to 15 on Wednesday. A total of 39 persons tested positive for the infection across the State.

The number of samples tested rose marginally when compared to the last three days. A total of 30,095 samples were tested on Wednesday.

Eighteen persons tested positive for the infection in Chennai and three in Vellore. Five districts - Chengalpattu, Coimbatore, the Nilgiris, Tiruvallur and Tirunelveli - recorded two cases each. Eight districts - Kancheepuram, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Ranipet, Tenkasi, Thanjavur, Thoothukudi and Villupuram - had a single case each.

Tamil Nadu has recorded 34,52,790 COVID-19 cases so far. The State continues to report nil deaths.

A total of 56 persons were discharged after treatment on Wednesday, taking the total number of recoveries so far to 34,14,443. The number of active cases fell to 322, of which 130 were in Chennai. Chengalpattu and Coimbatore had 38 and 22 active cases, respectively. There was no active case in seven districts.

The number of vacant COVID-19 beds in health centres and hospitals in the State stood at 72,886.
