DURBAN - The eThekwini Municipality has said there will be disruptions to water supply today in most areas in north, central south, and inner west regions of the city.

It said this is due to a valve failure in the vicinity of the Durban Heights Treatment Works of Umgeni Water.

“Due to the valve failure, the Umgeni Water Main Reservoir has been isolated to undertake repairs. These repairs are under way. However, this will affect supply of water in several areas in eThekwini.”

It said while the repairs were expected to be completed by yesterday, there would be no incoming flow into the city’s storage reservoirs and therefore there would be water outages today until midnight.

The municipality said the following areas would experience water shortages:

NORTHERN AQUEDUCT SUPPLIED AREAS

Aloes, Avoca, Phoenix, Mount Moriah, KwaMashu, Ntuzuma, Inanda, Mzinyathi, Etafuleni, Newlands, Effingham, Mountview, Trenance, Oaklands, Buffelsdraai, Parkgate, Amaoti, La Lucia, Gateway, Glenashley, Beachway, uMhlanga, Durban North, Sea Cow Lake, Springfield and Mt Edgecombe.

SOUTHERN AQUEDUCT SUPPLIED AREAS

Westville, Northdene, Queensburgh, Malvern, Chatsworth, Shallcross, Savannah Park, parts of Nagina, Kwasanti, Mawelewele, Welbedacht East, Welbedacht West, Luganda, Inteke, Klaarwater, Montford, Risecliff, Moorton, Crossmoor, Woodhurst, Arena Park, uMlazi, Nsimbini, Folweni and Golokodo.

The city said water tankers would be on standby to respond to affected areas.

“The municipality apologises for the inconvenience caused and requests residents to use water sparingly.”

It said the public can contact the call centre on 080 131 3013, the toll-free number on 080 311 1111 or use the eThekwini Water and Sanitation WhatsApp number 073 148 3477 for more information.
