12 irrigation projects of Rs 26,716 cr will be started in Narmada valley

Work will be started on 12 irrigation projects of Narmada Valley in Madhya Pradesh at a cost of Rs 26,716 crore. On completion of these projects, irrigation facility will be available in about 5.90 lakh hectare area.

In the first phase, in the month of April 2022, tenders will be invited for 7 projects of the Narmada Valley Development Authority, in the second phase, in August, for 2 projects of the authority itself and 3 projects of the Water Resources Department,  total 5 projects.

The implementation of all these projects will ensure the use of 3.50 MAF of Narmada water from Madhya Pradesh's share. On completion of all works of Narmada Valley, projects of Narmada Valley Development and Water Resources Department will irrigate about 38 lakh hectares including private pumping and use 18.25 MAF of water.

In the first phase, tenders will be invited for Upper Narmada Project District Dindori, Dudhi Project, Hoshangabad-Chhindwara, Shakkar Pench Link Project Narsinghpur-Chhindwara, Raghavpur Multipurpose Project Dindori, Basania Multipurpose Project Mandla, Handia Barrage Project Harda and Hoshangabad Barrage Project Hoshangabad.

The total cost of these projects is 14 thousand 491 crore 88 lakh rupees. The proposed irrigation area will be 2 lakh 58 thousand 216 hectares and 175 megawatt of power will also be generated.

In the second phase, tenders will be called for Jhirnya MIP Khandwa-Khargone of Narmada Valley Development and Kukshi Micro Irrigation Project Dhar. Their total cost is Rs 4,156.89 crore.

The proposed irrigation area is one lakh 14,520 hectares. In this phase tenders will also be invited for Hatpipalya Micro Lift Irrigation Project, Dewas, Upper Budhner Irrigation Project, Mandla, Sher-Machhrewa Major Irrigation Project, Seoni and Narsinghpur of Water Resources Department.

The total cost of these projects is Rs. 8 thousand 67 crore 57 lakh. The proposed irrigation area is 2 lakh 17 thousand 128 hectares.

It is noteworthy that Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has given priority to continuous increase in the irrigation potential of the state. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan has given instructions to complete the work of irrigation projects in the state within time-limit.
