Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday ordered the suspension of Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Gyanendra Vikram, who has been booked for the murder of a tehsil clerk (naib nazir) in Pratapgarh district.

On March 30, Vikram, a 2017-batch PCS officer, and three Home Guards had allegedly thrashed 57-year-old tehsil clerk Sunil Kumar Sharma. Both Vikram and Sharma were posted in Lalganj. Sharma was admitted to a hospital where he succumbed on April 2.

“Taking cognisance of the complaint against the SDM, Gyandendra Vikram, in Sunil Kumar Sharma’s case, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered his suspension,” the CM Office tweeted.

While the post-mortem report concluded that “septicaemic shock due to ante mortem lung infection” caused Sharma’s death, it also stated that there were nine injury marks on his body.

“The post-mortem report stated that nine minor injuries were found on the body. We are examining the postmortem as well as the medical reports. On the basis of evidence collected, the next course of action will be taken,” said Circle officer, Lalganj, Ram Surat Sonker.

Festive offer

While the 29-year-old SDM and three unidentified home guards have been named in the FIR, no one has been arrested yet. The FIR was filed under IPC section 302 (murder) among others.

On Saturday, Pratapgarh District Magistrate Nitin Bansal removed Gyanendra Vikram from SDM (Lalganj) post and attached him with the collectorate office.

The FIR against Vikram was registered on a complaint lodged by Sharma’s son Sudhir, who alleged that the SDM and a few home guards visited his father’s official residence on Lalganj tehsil office campus on March 30 and thrashed him with sticks over a dispute.
