Gadchiroli police to start mini movie theatres at 50 locations
Apart from movies, the villagers would also be informed about government schemes and relevant topics at these mini theatres
Nagpur: Going for a movie near their residence was a remote dream for villagers in the backward tribal district of Gadchiroli, but some may get a taste of it soon as the police department plans to start ‘mini theatres’ with projectors at 50 locations.
The mini theatres, to be created under ‘Police dadalora cinema hall project’, shall act as a platform for communication between local villagers and the rest of the world.
Apart from movies, the villagers would also be informed about government schemes at these mini theatres.
Introduced on an experimental basis in 2021 at Katejhari in north Gadchiroli, the Gadchiroli police now aim to repeat the success at other locations. On the lines of Katejhari, the Gadchiroli police have already started a mini movie theatre at Maharashtra’s farthest post, at Laheri, in the foothills of Maoist stronghold Abhujmadh, which is spread across the state border with Chhattisgarh. Mini theatres are also proposed at some remote locations like Godalwahi, Rajaram Khanla, Purada, Korchi, Kurkheda, Malewada, Ghot, Regdi, Jarawandi, Karwafa, Dechlipetha and other places.
SP Ankit Goyal said the mini movie theatres would play a multifaceted role including entertainment and recreation. “We are planning to open a mini movie theatre at all police posts where there is space available for it. The post personnel shall decide the time and days for shows of the latest movies, and also hold other shows as per the requirement along with some snacks,” he said. “These mini theatres would also act as stress busters for jawans and officers posted at various remote locations in the inhospitable terrain,” said the SP.
Apart from local villagers, families of local cops and officers staying at the post would also get entertainment facility near their residence.
The mini theatres would also hold shows for children of villagers who are compelled to stay at farms, agricultural fields, forests and other working places for their livelihood. It’s learnt women cops from every post would be entrusted with the responsibility of assembling children from the villages and bring them to the police post for their special shows, which shall also include educational programmes and different types of video games too.
SP Goyal, working under the supervision of DIG Naxal range Sandip Patil, said the work on the mini theatres is nearing completion at some posts. “We have already provided the posts with 25 projectors and other equipment to set up the mini theatres,” said the SP.
