Bhubaneswar: Hindus participating in the Ram Navami procession at Joda in Odisha's Kendujhar district were attacked by local Muslims. This incident is of Monday (11 April 2022). Since then the atmosphere in the area has become tense. After the violence, the district administration has imposed precautionary section 144 in the area. According to reports, Hindu Rambhakts wanted to take out a procession on the occasion of Ram Navami like every year, for which permission was also sought from the police. However, the police denied this and allowed only five members of the community to take out the procession on Monday.

After this, as soon as Hindu devotees with religious flags reached near the Shiv temple located in Ward No. 4, Muslim miscreants blocked their way. By blocking the road, he started arguing with the Hindus. They stopped the Hindus from entering the area in the temple and started pelting stones at them. Glass bottles were thrown at Hindus. Many people were injured in the violent clash. Seeing the deteriorating situation, a heavy police force reached the spot. But the miscreants also threw stones at the police. After this, the frenzied mob of Muslims started vandalizing nearby shops in the area. Vehicles were also set on fire. The police had to fire in the air to control the crowd.

It is being told that this dispute between the two communities lasted for more than 4 hours. Police officers including Superintendent of Police Mitrabhanu Mohapatra, Champua Deputy Collector Pratap Pritimaya, Badbil SDPO Himanshu Bhushan Behera, Badbil Tehsildar Alok Patel, Joda BDO Jagannath Hanuman were stationed on the spot to control the situation. After the matter, the police officers have imposed Section 144 in the town till 10 am on Tuesday.
