Dhule med college was given notice about deficiencies
Mumbai: The National Medical Commission had in March issued a show-cause notice to Dhule’s ACPM College, which was in news after the Supreme Court recently stayed the Bombay High Court’s order allowing admissions there.
The notice questioned the college on why its recognition should not be withdrawn in light of the deficiencies reported during a surprise inspection in January. The commission gave the college eight weeks to reply.
It was in the same letter that the commission directed stoppage of admissions to the current academic year, which was later challenged in the Aurangabad Bench of the Bombay High Court.
While the HC order permitted the college to admit students, the Supreme Court, on Friday, stayed that order. Since 100 students were already admitted to the college by then, the State’s CET Cell is planning to file an intervention in the matter.
The commission mentioned that the college was granted recognition based on the undertakings given by the college, without any physical inspection on account of the pandemic. It mentioned that the permission to increase the intake from 100 to 150 was also granted on the basis of the undertakings. The commission said the permission was conditional and it was mentioned that if during surprise inspections the college fails to meet minimum standards as prescribed by the commission, it can withdraw the permission and the recognition. A college official said that the notice has been challenged in the High Court. —Yogita Rao
