PATNA: State road construction minister Nitin Nabin on Thursday said the Purvanchal Expressway, from Lucknow to Buxar, will now be extended to Bhagalpur via Patna. A team of the central government will soon visit the state for studying its feasibility and submit its report to the government, he said.
The consent over extension of this expressway under the Bharatmala project and other pending works on national highways passing through the state was reached in a meeting held between Nitin and Giridhar Armani, secretary of the union ministry of road transport and national highways at New Delhi, on Wednesday.

Nitin said all pending works of construction of the nationals highways in the state would be expedited and completed within a time frame. “The central ministry has issued direction for completion of the Koilwar-Bihta four-lane highway from its fund,” he added.
Besides, the meeting also decided to invite tenders for many other projects, involving a cost of about Rs 12,000 crore and allot works for construction by June 30. These projects include Danapur-Bihta elevated road which will shorten the distance between Patna and Ara, widening of four-lane of Adalwari-Manikpur, Manikpur- Sahebganj and Sahebganj- Areraj roads and others.
He said the centre also agreed to complete the alignment work of a bridge on Adalwari-Manikpur road on Gandak river by April 30 this year.
Nitin further requested the central government to grant sanction for the remaining projects of 370-km roads of Bharatmala project under the prime minister's special package. These include widening of the four-lane of Sultanganj-Deoghar Kanwariya road and providing connectivity to Bodhgaya and Rajgir, both tourist places of the state, to Amas-Darbhanga Expressway.

Both the centre and the state also consented to connect the towns like Darbhanga, Madhubani, Saharsa and Supaul of Bihar, which are falling in alignment with Gorakhpur- Siliguri Expressway, which would help in overall development of the state.
Nitin clarified to the centre that all issues related to land acquisition for road projects have already been sorted out and now only required an expeditious execution of the works. Officials of both the central and the state governments were also present in the meeting.
