Woman labourer dies in accident at OSCOM plant in Ganjam district

Berhampur: Tension gripped Matikhal in Ganjam after the death of a contractual woman labourer on the premises of Odisha Sands Complex (OSCOM), a unit of PSU Indian Rare Earths Limited, there on Sunday. Matikhal is about 30km from here.
Rama Pradhan (34), who was engaged in road construction work at OSCOM, died after reportedly falling on the iron rods that she was carrying to the site of work. She was immediately rushed to the subdivisional hospital, Chhatrapur, where the doctors declared her brought dead.
Following her death, contractual workers and residents of Matikhal, staged a demonstration in front of OSCOM demanding adequate compensation to the next of the kin of the deceased and a job to one of her family members.
Forces from Chamakhandi and Chhatrapur police stations were pressed to the spot following the massive protests over the death of the woman. “Though tension still prevails, the situation is under control. We are trying to convince the agitators,” a police officer said.
