BERHAMPUR: The chief district medical officer of Ganjam on Wednesday asked all medical officers in the district to ensure uninterrupted power supply in hospitals and healthcare facilities. The CDMO’s directive comes in the wake of doctors conducting a delivery under torchlight at the government-run community health centre (CHC) at Polasara due to the prolonged power cut in the area.

“Two alternative power systems, including generators have been provided to all the hospitals in the district. The medical officers have been told to keep ready both the systems to ensure uninterrupted power supply,” said Uma Shankar Mishra, the Ganjam CDMO. “We will ensure that a similar situation does not happen in future,” he added. Mishra said a team headed by additional medical officer (family planning) Sarojini Devi would visit the CHC at Polasara to inquire why the power back-up faltered. “I have already asked her to conduct a probe into the matter,” he said. Besides conducting the delivery, doctors also had to refer a seven-day-old baby to MKCG Medical College and Hospital as the child needed neonatal care. Besides, they also had to treat several patients under candle light.
