DARBHANGA: Two minor girls were burnt alive in a fire triggered by leakage in a cooking gas cylinder in their house at Narayanpur village under the Kusheshwar Asthan police station area in Darbhanga district on Thursday.
Police said the incident occurred at the house of one Radheshyam Ram in the village. The victims were identified as
Maushmi Kumari (8) and
Mehar Kumari (5).
The blast took place while the LPG cylinder was being used for cooking food.
The thatched house immediately caught fire. The two sisters’ mother and brother,
Renu Devi and Gulshan Ram, also sustained burn injuries. They were later admitted to Satighat primary health centre.
The flames engulfed 10 more houses and the belongings in these houses were reduced to ashes. Firefighting vehicles were rushed to the spot to douse the flames.
SHO of Kusheshwar Asthan police station Umesh Jha said the circle officer of the block visited the spot after the incident.
Jha added the bodies of the two girls were sent to Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for autopsy. Biraul sub-divisional officer Sanjeev Kumar

Kapar said owners of the burned houses have been given Rs 9,800 each and polythene sheets for making makeshift arrangements for living. The family of the two girls will be given Rs 4 lakh as compensation.
