PATNA: India on Saturday created a world record with 78,025 people, mostly BJP workers, simultaneously waving national flag at an event attended by Union home minister Amit Shah to mark the victory of Veer Kunwar Singh in Revolt of 1857 against the British.
The BJP workers waved the tricolour for nearly five minutes at Jagdishpur in Bhojpur district. In the process, they broke a record that was set by Pakistan 18 years ago when 56,000 Pakistanis had waved their national flag at an event in Lahore.
A team of Guinness Book of World Records counted the heads at the venue of 3 lakh square feet area in Jagshidpur.

“As many as 78,025 BJP workers, along with Shah, waved the national flag simultaneously at the venue. The team of Guinness Book of World Records made the headcount,” a state BJP functionary said. “It is a world record,” he added. “Whatever Bihar decides, it accomplishes. On Saturday, people of Bihar created a history. More than 78,000 people created the world record of carrying national flags and waving them simultaneously in the presence of Shah,” Union environment, forests and climate change minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey said.
“The Vijayotsav function organised to commemorate the valour of Veer Kunwar Singh, as part of the Centre’s 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav', the 75th anniversary of India's Independence, was historic. A 5km chain of people was there,” Choubey, the BJP’s Buxar MP, added.
Indeed, at the stage, Shah was also concerned that those carrying the national flags moved into the enclosure made at the venue for the headcount.
Shah was seen giving instructions to his junior Nityanand Rai that the people concerned be asked to move into the enclosure to facilitate the headcount by the Guinness team. Rai, in turn, asked them on the microphone to move to the enclosure. A conch shell was also blown to alert the national flag-bearing people to make the desired move.
