Kanpur: Two minor sisters allegedly ended their lives by jumping before a goods train in Dibiyapur area near
Kanchausi railway station in Auraiya district, on Monday morning.
Bodies of Sapna (17) and Poonam (16), daughters of late
Ashok Nath of
Jogi Dera village, were found near Kanchausi railway station on the Delhi-Howrah route on Monday morning, said the police, adding, “After preliminary investigations, the bodies were sent for postmortem examination.”
Local sources, however, suspect that poverty could have driven the siblings to take such an extreme step.
Their father, Ashok Nath, died three years ago and their mother is reeling under some kind of chronic ailment for the past few years. The two girls worked as labourers to run the house, the sources said. “Besides, they used to cultivate crops on a small piece of agricultural land,” they added. The sisters went missing from their house early Monday morning and around 9.30 am, their family members received the information that they had allegedly jumped before a train.
Locals working in nearby fields, on seeing the mutilated bodies, informed the police control room.
Subsequently, the police rushed to the spot and sent their bodies for autopsy. “We are working on every possible aspect to corroborate the exact cause of their death,” said superintendent of police
Abhishek Verma.
