UP Board paper leak: Ex-secondary education director suspended for lapses

The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday suspended the then director of secondary education for alleged dereliction of duty in connection with the class XII English question paper leak in Ballia district on March 30.

Vinay Pandey (59), a PCS officer, was removed as director of secondary education on April 21 and was posted as director of literacy alternative education, Urdu and oriental languages.

Pandey was appointed as the director of the secondary education department four months ago, after holding temporary charge of the post since 2018. Before being given charge of director, Pandey was additional director in the same department.

The CMO tweeted on Tuesday, “Another strict action by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Ji over negligence in the discharge of duties. Then Director of Education (secondary) suspended (sic).”

“He [CM] has ordered the suspension of the then director of education (secondary) who was found prima facie guilty of not discharging official duties properly, negligence and indifference towards government works and non-compliance of government-level instructions, it added.

Speaking to The Indian Express on Tuesday, a senior department official said, “The suspension has been done because the director of education (secondary) is the one responsible for the smooth conduct of the UP Board examinations. The English exam had to be cancelled in 24 districts because of the leak, and hence the action.”
