The Madras High Court has directed the authorities concerned in Villupuram to publish the results for the interview conducted for recruitment to the post of salespersons in the co-operative shops in the district.

A division bench of Justices S Vaidyanathan and N Mala gave the direction while passing orders on a writ appeal from U Divya and eight others, recently.

Pursuant to a notification issued by the Joint Registrar of Villupuram District Recruitment Board on June 19, 2020, inviting applications from eligible candidates for the post of salespersons in co-operative shops, the appellants herein had submitted their applications and after scrutiny, they were called for interview that they attended on December 3, 2020.

Since the results of the interview were not published, the appellants approached the court by way of a writ petition. When the matter came up, the authorities submitted that they were proposing to withdraw the notification/advertisement.

A single judge of the HC on February 1 this year dismissed the writ petition. Hence, the present appeal.

Allowing the appeal, the bench observed that they are of the view that the results of the interview conducted pursuant to the June 2020 advertisement/notification will have to be published and the exercise shall be completed within two months.

Before accommodating other candidates, who may be qualified against the 3,331 vacancies, referred to by the District Recruitment Bureau in Villuppuram, the results of the eight candidates (appellants) shall be declared and they shall be accommodated following the rules of reservation, if they otherwise fulfil the requirements as per the advertisement norms.

Only thereafter, the other selected candidates shall be accommodated in the appropriate place, the judges said.
