VARANASI: A hotel and other illegal building structures belonging to a scrap mafia in Shaktinagar area of
Sonbhadra district were demolished on Wednesday.
The structures belong to zila panchayat member Munib Gupta and his accomplice Pappu Yadav near UPSRTC bus stand.
The structures were constructed on the land of Northern Coalfield (NCL).
DIG Amarendra Prasad Singh said, “In view of a high court order for making land of NCL free from the illegal possession of Munib Gupta and Pappu Yadav, a joint team of district administration and police reached the project area and demolished the hotel and other constructions made by them by capturing 10 biswa land.
The cost of property was estimated at Rs 5 crore.”
Singh said that currently two cases of land grabbing have been found in the history sheet of Gupta while further investigation is on.
If the locals are to be believed, Gupta had remained influential during Bahujan Samaj Party and also Samajwadi Party government between 2007 and 2016. Despite SP regime Gupta had defeated ruling party’s former district chief Sanjay Yadav in zila panchayat member election. His relatives have also strong hold in scarp trade in Madhya Pradesh and Kanpur, they said mentioning, utilising the same influences and muscle power Gupta had captured land of NCL with Pappu Yadav and ensured construction of hotel, building for residential and commercial purposes and also dairy.
