Uttar Pradesh: Groom’s uncle among 2 killed, 2 hurt in celebratory firing in Chitrakoot

PRAYAGRAJ: At least two persons, including the groom’s uncle, died while two others were injured when two members of a ‘barat’ (marriage procession) opened celebratory firing during the ‘dwarchar’ (welcome ceremony) of one Shankar in Nonagar, Atarsui village under the limits of Rajapur police station of Chitrakoot district late on Tuesday night.
The deceased, identified as Ramkaran Yadav (28) and Ram Lakhan Yadav (50), the groom’s uncle, were residents of Raipura.

Both the injured persons, identified as Ram Milan and Munna Pal, were admitted to Raipura community health centre for treatment of wounds.
Following the incident, an FIR under section 304 of IPC and section 25 (9) and 30 of Arms Act was registered against Babuli Yadav of Mahulia and Mahesh Yadav of Gowaria at Rajapur police station.
Both the accused, who opened fire with their licenced arms, were absconding.
Police said the marriage party of Shankar, a resident of Itwa Mahulia village, had arrived at Bhaiya Yadav’s house in Nonagar at around 11 pm on Tuesday night to solemnize the marriage of Bhaiya’s daughter.
When the family members of the bride were busy in welcoming the ‘barat’ at their doorstep at around 11:25 pm, two of the ‘baratis’ (members of the marriage procession), Babuli and Mahesh opened celebratory fire from their licenced weapons that left one person dead on the spot and three others injured, police said.

The firing incident created commotion at the marriage site and most of the ‘baratis’, including the groom ran away from the place fearing trouble.
Upon being alerted by the villagers, Rajapur police rushed to the spot and took the injured persons to the nearest community health centre for treatment.
Police added that Ramkaran (28) died on the spot while three others, including Ram Lakhan (50), Ram Milan and Munna Lal, were rushed to the community health centre for treatment. The groom’s uncle, Ram Lakhan, succumbed to his injuries during the treatment.
One Natthu Prasad, whose 28-year-old son died in the celebratory firing, has lodged the FIR against Babuli and Mahesh Yadav under appropriate sections.
