AHMEDABAD: Isa Rao, a native of Jodia in Devbhoomi-Dwarka district, who was involved in Rs 600 crore Morbi drug haul and subsequent drug seizures in other parts of the country, has been given shelter in Karachi by the Dawood Ibrahim gang, according to top sources in a central agency.
Central agency officials said that Rao fled the country in November 2021 and has been accommodated with the ‘D-gang'.
Sources said that Rao was instrumental in facilitating smuggling of heroin and other contraband consignments in the country.
"Rao was the local receiver of drug consignments in the past many cases. His role in contraband smuggling first surfaced in the Morbi drug haul case in the 2021 end. As the police along with the state and central agencies began hunting for smugglers, he fled to Karachi in Pakistan," said a senior officer of the agency.
Rao remained in hiding for some time after the seizure of 120kg heroin worth Rs 600 crore from an under-construction house in Morbi in November 2021, which was smuggled to India via Gujarat coast. Three persons were arrested in that case.
Further investigation led to the seizure of another 155.30kg of heroin worth Rs 776.5 crore and 14 people, including a Nigeria national, were arrested. In that case, Rao was instrumental in the entire smuggling and landing of the drugs.
