Kanpur: A man against whom the court has reportedly issued an arrest warrant in a land dispute first opened indiscriminate fire at a couple, then abducted their son, took him to a nearby desolate place, assaulted him brutally, slit his throat and then shot him dead in broad daylight in Amritpur town of Farrukhabad district on Saturday morning.
Police said the incident was the fallout of a rivalry between one Dinesh Awasthi and one Ram Babu, living in Amritpur town, over the possession of a piece of land.

Dinesh was having a dispute in the court with Ram Babu of the village with regard to the possession of 5 decimals of land. The court had issued an arrest warrant for Ram Babu’s side.
Accused Ram Babu and his family got agitated due to the issuance of the warrant. On Saturday morning, Ram Babu and his family members armed with firearms and sharp-edged weapons barged into Dinesh’s house and caught hold of his son Piyush, 23, and beat him up severely.
Piyush’s sister Gudiya told police that the accused first severely beat up her brother Piyush. “My father Dinesh and mother Meera Devi tried to save my brother but were shot at and critically injured by the accused. Later, the accused tied my brother’s hands and feet and took him to the disputed land, after which they slit his throat with a sharp weapon and shot him dead,” she said.
The injured couple were admitted to CHC Rajepur, from where they were referred to the district’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. Later, going by their critical condition, doctors referred them to Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences in Saifai, Etawah.

On receiving the information, superintendent of police Ashok Kumar Meena, additional superintendent of police Ajay Pratap and Circle Officer (City) Pradeep Singh rushed to the spot. The accused, however, fled from the spot.
Panic prevailed in the area after the incident. The villagers were angry over the incident and Dinesh’s family members have accused the local police of patronizing the accused.
During questioning by the SP, the family members of Dinesh alleged that Ram Babu had earlier also attacked them. Even then, the police did not arrest him even though there was a warrant against the accused in the case. This further bolstered their courage and on Saturday they executed the incident, they added.
The SP told media persons that the body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem.
“The accused will be brought to book. The probe has been given to ASP Ajay Pratap. If laxity of any police personnel is found, action will definitely be taken on the basis of the investigation report,” said the SP further.
In the police investigation, it also came to fore that the deceased Piyush, who had recently passed the examination of ‘lekhpal’, was preparing for civil services examination.
