Vijayapura DC reviews Covid preparedness at district hospital

Vijayapura: Following the death of a 50-year-old woman who had tested positive for Covid-19, deputy commissioner Vijaymahantesh Danammanavar visited the district hospital here on Friday to review the preparedness of the staff to tackle the possible fourth wave of the pandemic.
The deceased woman had been admitted to the hospital with complaints of tuberculosis and severe respiratory problems on April 5. Not responding to treatment, she died on May 2, authorities said.Her last rites were performed as per Covid-19 protocol.
Danammanavar had earlier convened an emergency meeting of health officials and had asked them make necessary preparations to tackle the possible fourth wave. On Friday he set out on an inspection spree and visited the district hospital.
After seeing the arrangements at the Out-Patient Department (OPD) and casualty ward, he instructed the hospital superintendent to make seating arrangement for those visiting the X-Ray unit.
He inspected the life-saving machines and availability of medicines at the Covid-19 ICU and directed officials to keep sufficient stock of medicines.
Danammanavar also visited the kitchen, dialysis unit PSA plant and Liquid Medical Oxygen units and directed staff to keep them in ready-to-use condition. Noticing that there was no sufficient space to keep washing machines, the DC told district surgeon Dr SL Lakkannavar to identify a place to construct a building to house the laundry.
He inspected the under-construction multispecialty and trauma care centre buildings and instructed engineers to expedite the work.
He suggested some modifications in the mother and child Hospital to meet contemporary requirements.
Speaking to STOI, Danammanavar said he was satisfied with the facilities available and preparedness of the staff to handle any eventuality.
