COVID-19 News Updates: Delhi logs 1,422 fresh cases, zero fatality

Delhi reported 1,422 fresh COVID-19 cases and zero fatality due to the viral disease on Sunday, while the positivity rate was recorded ta 5.34 per cent, according to data shared by the city health department. A total of 26,647 Covid tests were conducted in the national capital on Saturday, it showed.

Russia says it hit Ukrainian warship near Odesa
Russia's defence ministry said on Sunday it had destroyed a Ukrainian navy ship near Odesa with a missile strike overnight. The ministry said its missiles had hit a 'Project 1241' corvette, a class of Soviet missile corvettes with a NATO reporting name of Tarantul. Russia's air defences also shot down two Ukrainian SU-24 bombers and a Mi-24 helicopter over the Snake island in the Black Sea at night, the ministry said in a statement.

With two more deaths, the death toll in a blaze in a firecracker factory here has reached five, police said on Sunday. A sudden fire had broken out in the factory, located in Sorana village in Sarsawa area on Saturday. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Akash Tomoar said that three persons, including Rahul, the factory license holder, perished in the blaze on Saturday while two more died during treatment.
355 new Covid cases in Gurugram
After reporting more than 400 Covid cases for three consecutive days, the district reported 355 new cases on Saturday, a drop of 24% from the previous day. A total of 469 new cases were reported from the city on Friday. The test positivity rate also dropped to 10.1% from Friday's 11.7%. The number of active cases, however, increased to 1,872 from the earlier 1,772. Of the total, 17 patients are hospitalised while the remaining 1,855 are recovering at home. As many as 255 people recovered in the past 24 hours, bringing the number of recoveries to 2,66,600.

Two people have been killed in the Russian bombing of a school in the Ukrainian village of Bilohorivka and 60 who remained under debris are feared dead, Serhiy Gaidai, governor of the Luhansk region, said on Sunday. Gaidai said Russia dropped a bomb on Saturday afternoon on the school where about 90 people were sheltering. Thirty people have been rescued.

Active COVID-19 cases in India rise to 20,635
The active cases comprise 0.05 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.74 per cent, the ministry said. An increase of 332 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours. The daily positivity rate was recorded at 0.96 per cent and the weekly positivity rate at 0.83 per cent, according to the ministry.

With the addition of 17 new COVID-19 cases, the infection count in Maharashtra's Thane district has gone up to 7,09,182, while one fatality raised the death toll to 11,894, an official said on Sunday. These new cases and death were reported on Saturday, he said, adding that the COVID-19 mortality rate in Thane is 1.67 per cent. In neighbouring Palghar district, the COVID-19 case count stood at 1,63,612 and the death toll at 3,407, another official said.
