BELAGAVI: Sharad Pawar, the president of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and a former Maharashtra Chief Minister, is slated to attend several events in this state's border district on Tuesday and Wednesday. His visit is significant in light of a recent spat between Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Sharad Pawar's brother, and Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

CM Bommai reacted angrily to Ajit Pawar's allegation that Belagavi is a part of Maharashtra. Pawar's visit is likely to bring up the language issue.

Pawar will begin his two-day visit by unveiling a statue of independence warrior Kittur Rani Chennamma, who was martyred near Chikkodi town while fighting Britishers. Throughout the day, he is anticipated to take part in various programmes held in Chikkodi taluk.

The leader will attend events at Maratha Bank in Belagavi and Shikshana Samithi Jyothi College on Wednesday. Pawar has had a long friendship with local politician and businessman Prabhakar Kore. He frequently visits to Belagavi to participate in programmes organised by Kore's Karnataka Lingayat Education Society (KLE). Sharad Pawar has been silent on the Karnataka-Maharashtra boundary issue or linguistic dispute.
