WARDHA: The Bramhapuri police have booked a police inspector (PI) posted at Wadner police station in Hinganghat tehsil for rape and sexual harassment following a complaint filed by a woman from Bramhapuri in Chandrapur district.
The woman alleged that the PI, Rajendra Shete, exploited her over the last 14 years. Bramhapuri police station officer PI Yadav said that Shete met the survivor during his posting at Bramhapuri police station as assistant inspector during the period 2007-08.
“As per the complainant, Shete promised to marry the woman and established a relationship with her,” Yadav said.
It is learnt, the accused had called the survivor for a meeting at Ghodzari in Nagbhid taluka on March 30. When the woman asked about marriage, the accused allegedly got into an argument and beat her up and threatened to kill her.
The woman lodged a complaint at Bramhapuri police station on May 10. Offence was registered under sections 376 (2) (n), 323, 504 and 506 of the IPC.
It is learnt, Shete has not been arrested yet. Chandrapur district superintendent of police Arvind Salve visited Bramhapuri police station to review progress in the case.
