Ayurveda professors demand salaries as per NCISM gazette

Ayurveda professors demand salaries as per NCISM gazette
Nagpur: While the issue of salaries of professors in medical colleges is discussed on various forums, most may not be aware that the teachers in privately run ayurveda colleges are getting very less payment as compared to their counterparts in colleges of modern medicine.
The National Commission for Indian System of Medicines (NCISM), the central council for ayurveda colleges (like NMC for modern medicine), has issued a gazette earlier this year fixing the minimum payments for assistant professors, associate professors, professors and HODs of various departments of ayurveda colleges.
Now, teachers in these colleges are demanding implementation of this gazette notification.
“As NCISM has taken a bold step in setting standards in ayurveda education, the reforms made in the current gazette will be verified in the upcoming inspections. It will be mandatory for all ayurveda medical colleges to follow these new rules. We request all principals, deans, directors, presidents, secretaries, and managements of medical colleges to provide the salary to teaching staff as per the NCISM Gazette,” reads a statement issued by National Integrated Medical Association (NIMA).
Dr Vishnu Bawane, senior functionary of NIMA told TOI that the teaching faculty is overburdened in educational, clinical and administrative as well as various statutory workload allotted by the institution. “Teachers have to strive to serve as a teaching faculty, treating consultant at hospitals attached to the colleges, and also as administrators in the institution,” he said. He added that the teachers in ayurveda colleges must get salaries mentioned in the gazette. NIMA has written letters to all colleges, state secretaries and concerned officials across the country regarding this.
As per the gazette, salary must be credited to the salary account through bank transfer and necessary facilities such as provident fund or employees state insurance etc shall be provided by the college to the teachers. College must issue the income tax deduction certificate such as Form 16 to the teacher as per the norms.
