Berhampur: An anganwadi worker, who was missing for the past five days, was found hanging from a tree in a forest near Podapadar in Ganjam district on Friday.
Police suspect that financial problems drove 57-year-old Subhashini Panda to allegedly take her life. She was reportedly finding it difficult to repay the loans that she had taken from the woman self-help group in the village and was under tremendous pressure to do so at the earliest.
“On being alerted by the villagers, we immediately rushed to the cashew field to recover Panda’s body.
We then informed her family members about it. The body has been sent for autopsy,” Satya Ranjan Pradhan, IIC, Chhatrapur police station, said.
“The exact cause of her death is yet to be known. The amount of loan she had taken is also to be ascertained. Investigation is under way,” he added.
Panda, a mother of two, went missing on May 8. Her family members lodged an FIR with Chhatrapur police station the next day. tnn
