Dharwad: Over 1,240 permanent workers of
Tata Marcopolo Motors Ltd, who were on an indefinite strike for the last 49 days in front of the DC’s office here, called off their strike on Saturday.
They were protesting against the company’s management for allegedly not revising the pay scales since last 25 months and had sought government’s intervention. The company’s failure to revise pay in accordance with inflation left the labourers dismayed, prompting them to strike.
The workers’ union said that the company had put a rider that pay scales will be revised only if they meet the production target set by the company. “Since it was impossible to reach the target, the workers said they were ready to ensure production which is scientifically feasible, but the company did not agree,” the agitating workers said.
The matter went to the conciliatory officer and Industrial Disputes Tribunal (Hubballi). Meanwhile, the government has ordered the company to pay an interim relief of Rs 6,000. “Considering this, the workers are calling off the strike temporarily...” said
TUCI Central Committee president
Amarsih Patel.
