ALTAMONT — Firefighters contained the Flynn Fire Sunday afternoon in the Altamont hills east of Livermore, authorities said.

The fire began around 1:25 p.m., when hay bales along the right side of westbound Interstate 580 lanes caught fire and spread to nearby grassy hillsides east of the North Flynn Road exit.

Fire crews with Livermore-Pleasanton and CalFire departments responded, and arrived to find about 25 acres burning with a moderate rate of spread.

By 2:50 p.m., some CalFire resources initially committed to the fire were released. About a half-hour after that, firefighters mad managed to contain the blaze to 132 acres, according to a CalFire social-media post. There were no reported threats to structures or reports of injuries, and a cause was under investigation.

California Highway Patrol officers also responded, closing two right-hand westbound I-580 lanes as well as the North Flynn Road on-ramp and Altamont Pass Road at Greenville Road. Altamont Pass Road lanes re-opened just before 3:45 p.m.
