The Gamecocks are second in their Norman Regional, while the Tigers sit in fourth in Columbus

The NCAA Men's Golf Tournament began Monday in six seperate regional sites across the country, with both the Clemson Tigers and South Carolina Gamecocks off to strong starts after 18 holes.The No. 24 ranked Gamecocks got a career-best round of 66 (-6) from freshman Gene Zeigler, powering the Gamecocks to a second place score of -10 in the Norman Regional.In Columbus, the No. 23 Clemson Tigers started slow, but surged late thanks in part to freshman Kian Rose leading the way with an ever-par 71. The Tigers ended the day +5 as a team and in fourth place.In the Palm Beach Gardens Regional, Furman's Ross Funderburke is tied for 33rd, eight strokes off the lead after shooting a 3-over par 75.The 54-hole regionals will continue through Wednesday.The top five teams and the low individual not on an advancing team from all six regionals will advance to the NCAA Men's Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, AZ.
