The Philippines is set to participate in the international standardization on human resource (HR) management, according to the Department of Trade and Industry’s Bureau of Philippine Standards (DTI-BPS).
In a news statement on Tuesday, DTI-BPS noted that “regardless of size, it is important for any organization to be efficient in managing its human resources so that in times of unforeseen disruption, responding to change will not become a problem.”
In December 2021, the DTI-BPS, the country’s National Standards Body (NSB), has signified its status as a participating member to ISO Technical Committee on Human Resource Management (ISO/TC 260).
This provides an opportunity to be involved in the deliberation and drafting of International Standards on HR such as recruitment, retention, development, engagement, and deployment.
Anticipating the benefit of applying ISO/TC 260 standards, the Philippines is being represented by a registered Psychometrician and Performance Management Consultant, Mr. Juan Paolo Arao. As a consultant, he provides advisory services in a broad area of human capital management services. He is the first Filipino to receive ISO 30414 certification.
Arao believes that “people [regardless of position level] in the organization can be seen as an asset that yields return of investment contributing to profitability instead of an expense that needs to be reduced.” DTI-BPS subscribes to this belief, and has initiated its participation in international standardization.
The trade industry noted in its statement “to be able to translate our output to a national position, DTI-BPS will spearhead the organization of a National Technical Committee that will mirror the ISO standardization activities on human resource management.”
DTI-BPS added that interested stakeholders are encouraged to convey to agency the intention to participate in the undertaking.
