Covid-19 in India Highlights: India recorded 2,364 new coronavirus infections taking the total tally of Covid-19 cases in the country to 4,31,29,563, according to the data shared by the Health Ministry on Thursday. The active cases declined to 15,419, and the death toll climbed to 5,24,303 with 10 fresh fatalities. The active cases were recorded at 0.04 per cent of the total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.75 per cent, the ministry said. A decrease of 228 cases has been recorded in the active Covid-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

Meanwhile, North Korea on Thursday reported 262,270 more cases of people with suspected symptoms of COVID-19 as its pandemic caseload neared 2 million — a week after the country acknowledged the outbreak and scrambled to slow the rate of infections despite a lack of health care resources.

Coronavirus Live Tracker: Madhya Pradesh logs 45 new COVID-19 cases; active tally at 236

Madhya Pradesh on Thursday recorded 45 new cases of COVID-19 that raised the tally of infections to 10,42,069, an official from the state health department said.

As many as 35 patients were discharged from hospitals during the day, taking the count of recoveries to 10,31,098, while the toll remained unchanged at 10,735, as no fresh casualties were reported, he said.

The state currently has 236 active cases, with a positivity rate of 0.5 per cent, the official said.

With the addition of 8,011 samples examined during the day, the total number of tests conducted so far reached 2,92,19,161, he added.

As per a government release, 11,84,27,759 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered so far in the state, of which 45,557 jabs were given on Thursday.

Coronavirus Live Tracker: Gujarat registers 19 new coronavirus cases, zero death; active tally at 204

Gujarat registered 19 new cases of coronavirus on Thursday, taking the overall tally to 12,24,833, while no fresh death due to the infection was recorded in the state, the health department said.

The death toll remained unchanged at 10,944 with no addition to the count in the last 24 hours, said a release by the department.

It said 27 persons recovered from the respiratory disease during the day, pushing up the tally of recoveries to 12,13,685.

The number of active cases in Gujarat now stands at 204, the release added.

Gujarat COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 12,24,833, new cases 19, deaths 10,944, recoveries 12,13,685, active cases 204, total tests – figures not released. (PTI)

Coronavirus Live Tracker: Telangana sees 47 new COVID-19 cases

A total of 47 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Telangana on Thursday, taking the tally to 7,92,757 so far, said a Health Department bulletin.

No fresh fatality due to the infection was reported today and the death toll continued to be 4,111, said the bulletin.

Hyderabad recorded the highest number with 36 cases.

A total of 34 people recovered from the infection, taking the cumulative number of recoveries to 7,88,250 till date.

The active cases stood at 396, it said.

A total of 12,458 samples were tested during the day, and the total number examined was 3,48,73,707 till date.

The case fatality rate was 0.51 per cent and the recovery rate 99.43 per cent, it added.(PTI)

Coronavirus Live Tracker: Maharashtra records 316 new COVID-19 cases, zero death; active tally tops 1,700

Maharashtra on Thursday recorded 316 fresh coronavirus cases, the highest daily count since March 12, but no new fatality linked to the infection, while the active tally crossed the 1,700-mark, the health department said.

Mumbai alone recorded 223 coronavirus cases, making a major contribution in the state tally in the last 24 hours.

With this, the state's COVID-19 tally rose to 78,81,858, while the death toll remained unchanged at 1,47,856, the department said in a bulletin.

On Wednesday, the state had recorded 307 cases and one fatality due to the respiratory illness.

The state had registered 324 cases on March 12.

Satara, Sangli, Nandurbar, Dhule, Jalna, Latur, Hingoli, Osmanabad, Akola, Buldhana and Gondia districts have zero active cases.

The bulletin said 201 coronavirus patients recovered in the last 24 hours, taking their cumulative count to 77,32,282 and pushing up the tally of active cases to 1,720.

The coronavirus recovery rate in the state stood at 98.10 per cent.

It said 28,499 swab samples were examined in the last 24 hours, taking the number of coronavirus tests conducted so far in the state to 8,06,48,987. (PTI)

Coronavirus Live Tracker: 11 new cases in J&K

Jammu and Kashmir recorded 11 new Covid cases on Thursday that took the infection tally to 4,54,170, officials said.

Of the new cases, nine were reported from Jammu district while one each surfaced in Srinagar and Kupwara districts, they said.

There are 54 active cases while the overall recoveries have reached 4,49,364, officials said.

The COVID-19 death toll stands at 4,752. No Covid-related fatality was reported in the last 24 hours, they said.

There were 51 confirmed cases of mucormycosis (black fungus), they added. (PTI)

Coronavirus Live Tracker: Andaman and Nicobar Islands remain COVID-free

Andaman and Nicobar Islands remained free from COVID-19 as no fresh infection was detected, a health bulletin said on Thursday. The lone coronavirus patient in the archipelago was cured of the disease on May 17. The Union territory's tally stood at 10,039, while 9,910 people have been cured of the disease and 129 patients have succumbed to the infection to date. The administration has thus far tested over 7.32 lakh samples, and fully vaccinated 3.38 lakh people. (PTI)

Coronavirus Live Tracker: Odisha’s active COVID-19 tally at 120

Odisha recorded 12 more COVID-19 cases on Thursday, the health department said. There are 120 active cases in the state at present, it said. The toll remained at 9,126 as the state did not report a COVID-19 death for the 16th successive day, it added. The new cases were detected after testing 14,755 samples. In the last 24 hours, 15 more patients recovered from the disease. The state had logged 13 cases on Wednesday. So far, the state has reported 12,88,339 cases. (PTI)

Coronavirus Live Tracker: Germany’s top court OKs vaccine mandate for health workers

Germany's top court has approved rules requiring that health workers be vaccinated against COVID-19. The Constitutional Court announced Thursday that it has rejected a complaint against the measure, arguing that protecting vulnerable people in hospitals and care homes is more important than the infringement of health workers' rights. The German government had initially planned to extend the vaccine mandate to all adults, but even a proposal to impose one on the over-60s was rejected by lawmakers. Coronavirus Live Tracker: Shanghai reports 82 symptomatic, 637 asymptomatic COVID cases for May 18

The Chinese financial hub of Shanghai reported 637 new local asymptomatic coronavirus cases for May 18, down from 759 a day earlier. Confirmed symptomatic cases fell to 82 from 96 the previous day, the city's government said in a statement. Coronavirus Live Tracker: Shanghai to reopen subways in easing of COVID restriction

The locked-down Chinese metropolis of Shanghai will reopen four of its 20 subway lines Sunday as it slowly eases pandemic restrictions that have kept most residents in their housing complexes for more than six weeks. The city will also restart 273 bus lines connecting major urban centers, airports, train stations and hospitals as it resumes cross-district public transit, Yu Fulin, director of the Shanghai Transport Commission, said at a daily pandemic briefing Thursday. It wasn't immediately clear how frequent the service would be. Coronavirus Live Tracker: China reports 1,082 new coronavirus cases on May 18 vs 1,305 day earlier

China reported 1,082 new coronavirus cases on May 18, of which 212 were symptomatic and 870 were asymptomatic, the National Health Commission said on Thursday. That compares with 1,305 new cases a day earlier, consisting of 240 symptomatic and 1,065 asymptomatic infections, which China counts separately. Coronavirus Live Tracker: 31 new COVID-19 cases in Thane, no death

With the addition of 31 new COVID-19 cases, the infection count in Maharashtra's Thane district has gone up to 7,09,441, an official said on Thursday. These new cases were reported on Wednesday, he said. With no fresh fatality, the COVID-19 death toll in the district stood at 11,895 and the mortality rate at 1.67 per cent, he added. North Korea is ramping up production of drugs and medical supplies including sterilisers and thermometers as it battles an unprecedented coronavirus outbreak, state media KCNA said on Thursday.
