Police bust IPL betting racket, arrest six bookies in Delhi's Nihal Vihar

Five people who were allegedly running an IPL betting racket have been arrested, police said, adding that a special suitcase comprising multiple mobile phones, call merging microphones, recorders, and routers, has been seized from them.

NEW DELHI: Five people who were allegedly running an IPL betting racket have been arrested, police said, adding that a special suitcase comprising multiple mobile phones, call merging microphones, recorders, and routers, has been seized from them.
The racket was busted as part of a special drive against organised crimes in the Nihal Vihar area, DCP (Outer District) Sameer Sharma said.
A team of informers was deployed and police kept a check on the history-sheeters present in the area to fetch information. Acting on a tip-off, a raid was conducted and the accused were apprehended from a building in the area.
The accused have been identified as Rahul Garg, Kunal Garg, Sanjeev Kumar, Ashok Sharma, and Dharmatma Sharma — residents of East Punjabi Bagh.
According to police, Rs 74,740 had been recovered from the accused apart from 10 mobile phones, two laptops, three routers and two LED TVs. Phones were installed in the suitcase and the accused were in touch with bigger bookies through call switching. The bets were placed at regular intervals, police said. The suitcase was attached to a TV and bets were being coordinated accordingly.
The accused have a previous criminal record and the investigation in the case is on to nab the other members of the syndicate.
