Cops found all windows and exhaust sealed with plastic foil
NEW DELHI: Investigating what looks like a suicide pact between a woman and her two daughters in Vasant Vihar, cops found a handwritten note with detailed instructions for those entering the room on what to do and what to avoid.
“Too much deadly gas, carbon monoxide inside. It’s flammable. Please ventilate the room by opening the window and opening the fan. Do not light a match, candle or anything!! Be careful while removing the curtain because the room is full of hazardous gas.
Do not inhale,” the note said.

After clearing the toxic fumes from the room, cops started their inquiry and found three bodies Manju (mother) and her daughters Ankita and Anshika on a bed. Prima facie, police suspect that they died due to suffocation and the family might have been planning to end their lives for days. Later multiple notes were recovered from the house in which the deceased had written about their health issues, and financial problems, emotionally they were broken and thanked everyone.
“Police told us that in one of the notes it was written that the family had planned to commit suicide one year ago but they were not able to do it,” a resident said. However, police claimed that they are probing the veracity of the notes.

RWA president (Vasant Vihar apartment) M David said a tenant used to live in another flat in the same house but had vacated it last year. “We came to know that the family had told the tenant that some family members will come to live there,” he said. “In one of the notes, it was written that they had lied to the tenant about the arrival of relatives in that flat. It might be they had made a plan earlier as well to take the extreme step," he said.

Another note was about how they have completely broken after the girls’ father Umesh’s death and did not want to be a burden to anyone. Anshul Srivastava, the deceased's relative said after Umesh's death, the daughters never asked for monetary help but the relatives used to send money to them. Meanwhile, in yet another note, one of the girls apologises to everyone for taking the extreme step and thanks those who had helped them during tough times.
Near the house, a broken old bike was parked. Two CCTV cameras were also installed and police are scanning the footage. “Cops are probing how the family got the idea of killing themselves with toxic fumes,” sources said. Outside the house, charcoal-like black marks were also seen. Deputy commissioner of police (southwest) Manoj C said they have started inquest proceedings. The postmortem was conducted on Sunday. In the notes, no allegation was levelled against anyone, the DCP said.
Incidentally, in 2019, an elderly couple and their 20-year-old medical attendant were found brutally killed in their flat in the Vasant Apartment area. The place was a few metres away from the house where three bodies were recovered on Saturday.
